My research and teaching examine the impact of sociodemographic diversity on politics in Canada. My work answers questions about inequality and democracy, with a focus on the representation of race and gender. At present, my major projects investigate the experiences of Black Canadians in politics, diversity and representation in municipal politics, and the meaning and consequences of survey questions on racial identity.

Originally from Saskatchewan, I began my career as a researcher and policy analyst in the federal public service before returning to school where I earned a PhD in Political Studies at Queen's University. Before coming to Carleton, I was associate professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto.
